Gartner Recognizes KNIME as a Leader in Data Science and Machine Learning PlatformsoyasnevMon, 02/26/2018 - 16:00

Zurich, February 26, 2018 – For the fifth year in a row, KNIME® , the open source platform for data driven innovation, has been placed in the leader category in Gartner’s 2018 Magic Quadrant for Data Science and Machine Learning Platforms. The placement recognizes ability to execute and completeness of vision.

Gartner, Inc. describes leaders as having “a strong presence and significant mind share in the market. Resources skilled in their tools are readily available. Leaders demonstrate strength in depth and breadth across a full model development and implementation process. Leaders are in the strongest position to influence the market's growth and direction. This gives them the advantage of a clear understanding and strategy for the data science market, with which they can become disrupters themselves and develop thought leading and differentiating ideas.”

“To be recognized again as a leader, while also being significantly moved forward in vision and ability to execute, is humbling,” says Michael Berthold, CEO, KNIME AG. “We have a great community of users and enthusiasts who continually contribute to KNIME, and we are grateful for that. They are helping us build this open source platform that strives to be at the forefront of innovation.”

KNIME owes these accolades to its users from thousands of organizations (including many big players) across various industries, all enjoying the open source, free platform. “While other platforms are commercializing functionality, KNIME is continuing to cause a stir in the market by adding more functionality to the open source platform. The concept of adding the commercial KNIME Server for collaboration, automation, and deployment, without ever limiting open source usage is just brilliant,” comments Stefan Weingaertner, AI Associates. “It’s no wonder KNIME is in the leader category again this year.”

“We’re continuing to invest heavily in the development of our software to ensure our users have everything they need to get their job done, fast. We’re also ensuring there are simple and relevant ways to enable these users to share what they do with other members of their organization,” continues Berthold. “Our commitment to open source is solid and we’ve put everything on GitHub to back that up. This honest, transparent business model works for everyone and we plan on keeping it that way.”

    KNIME Analytics Platform 3.6 is now available!oyasnevWed, 07/11/2018 - 11:58

We’ve just released the latest version of KNIME Analytics Platform and here’s a quick summary of what’s new.

There are enhancements to our deep learning integrations, added support for H2O Sparkling Water, and many utility nodes including a multi column dictionary tagger and a numeric outlier node, a powerful multi column expression node, nodes to handle your Git repositories, and many more. Along with this, many UI improvements have been made - including connecting or unconnecting nodes with keyboard shortcuts, zooming, and easy node replacement.

One neat little addition is a node that allows you to create a local, fully functional big data environment from within a KNIME workflow, including Apache Spark, Apache Hive, and Apache Hadoop. You can now try out the Big Data Extensions without the need for an Apache Hadoop cluster. Additionally, we added support for Apache Spark 2.3.

On the KNIME Server side, we’ve added a number of new features as well, most notably an option that makes it easier for IT operations to centrally manage KNIME Analytics Platform preferences.

One of the highlights of this release is the new KNIME Workflow Hub - a place for the community to share workflows and browse all our existing example workflows. We have also added the ability to comment and rate workflows making it easier to find the highlights.

All the release details are summarized here, as well as in the more detailed changelog. We’ve also put a video together, highlighting lots of the new features. But really, the best way to check it out is by trying it for yourself. Open KNIME and go to File -> Update KNIME to get the latest version, or download and install it from here.

Don't forget to mark your calendars for the KNIME Fall Summit in Austin, Texas from November 6-9, 2018 - it will be a good chance to see some of these new features in action!

    Have a great summer!

Guided Analytics Learnathon: Building Applications for Automated Machine Learning, Romeheather.fysonMon, 04/01/2019 - 11:54 - Rome, Italy

Welcome to the series of Artificial Intelligence Learnathons!

SourceSense and IAML will be running and hosting this event, promoted by KNIME, which will focus on automated machine learning and data visualization. We will work in groups. Each group will build a simple application for automated Machine Learning (ML), with an input page to insert the settings for data preparation, model training, and hyper-parameter optimization and an output page to visualize model insights and performance. At the conclusion of the event, the application will be deployed on KNIME Server and be run from a web browser.

The tool of choice for this learnathon is the open source, intuitive, KNIME Analytics Platform, which also offers great integrations with R, Python, SQL, and Spark. Free trials for KNIME Server licenses will be distributed for the final deployment.

After an initial introduction to KNIME Analytics Platform, KNIME Server, and automated ML, we will split into two groups, with each group building one of the following:

      • Group 1: the user interface for interactive visual data exploration and automated ML settings
      • Group 2: the final dashboard to visualize model accuracy and speed performance

We will provide a dataset, jump-start workflows, and final solutions for the proposed tasks, and of course data visualization and ML experts.

Please bring your own laptop with KNIME Analytics Platform pre-installed. To install KNIME Analytics Platform, follow the instructions provided in these YouTube videos:

      KNIME Spring Summit 2019, Berlin: SummaryhsTue, 04/02/2019 - 09:18

From March 18-22 we held our 12th annual KNIME Spring Summit in Berlin, Germany. KNIME users and enthusiasts got together for a week of courses, presentations, workshops, an evening at the movies, and the chance to network. This year we welcomed over 400 people through the doors. Alongside the regular Summit attendees, it was great to see so many new faces. Thank you to everyone who joined us!

Michael Berthold opened the Summit by reflecting on another year of significant growth for KNIME. He then discussed new and growing trends in data science, as well as in machine learning (and of course the elephant in the room - artificial intelligence) and put them into context with our Guided Analytics vision. Check out his and other presentations here.

Wednesday and Thursday were full of engaging presentations from data scientists, business analysts, and independent users across industries such as marketing, life science, production and manufacturing, customer intelligence, and banking. Their presentations highlighted the diverse application areas of KNIME Software from predictive modeling, image processing, and data visualization, through to spectral data analysis, IIoT, machine learning, guided automation, and more. We also looked into what’s new and what’s cooking at KNIME. Thank you once again to our speakers for all these great presentations! You can check out their slides here.

On the Monday and Tuesday before the summit began, we ran KNIME Courses covering topics ranging from beginner and advanced users in KNIME, through to specialty topics such as text mining, big data, and IoT analytics. We also ran our first half-day KNIME Refresher Course on Tuesday, as well as a meeting for our KNIME Community Developers. There were also other events such as the poster session on Thursday (featuring 22 posters from the KNIME Community), our partner exhibition, workshops on Friday morning, and the debut of our KNIME Certification Program.

It was great hosting everyone in Berlin and we are already looking forward to KNIME Fall Summit in Austin, Texas from November 5-8, 2019. An early bird discount is available for those who want to secure their spot early.
